Always read product labels! Be certain you know what ingredients are in the
products you use in your home or office. Do not mix chemical agents (for instance,
chlorine bleach) with other agents unless the label indicates it is safe to do so.
Doing so may result in toxic fumes.
-
Before you clean, gather all your cleaning supplies and keep them in a handy
caddy or basket with handles. Purchase multi-purpose products, washable cleaning
cloths and tools that fit easily into your caddy. This way, you can move freely
throughout your home and office and cleaning will be more efficient.

Microfiber!! The latest, greatest cleaning tool! A microfiber cleaning cloth
can clean 90% of the surfaces in your home or office, including glass, mirrors,
leather, brass, marble, oak, walls and laminate. And microfiber products can be
used with or without chemicals! Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to dust
windowsills, lamps, baseboards & electronics. Microfiber mops are terrific for any
kind of floor - wet or dry!
-
Use floor mats to keep the dirt out! Eighty-five percent of the dirt in your
home or office comes in on the bottom of shoes. Place a mat at all doors and ask
people to wipe their feet - this will remove approximately 80% of the dirt!
-
Store extra trash can liners on the bottom of trash cans. This not only protects
the bottom of the can from spills and leaks, but upon emptying the can, your new
liner is ready to go.
-
Always clean from top to bottom. Why? The law of gravity! Dust and dirt fall
from high places to lower places and the floor. Working from the top down allows
all the accumulated grime to fall to the floor that will then be vacuumed or mopped.
Also, work a room in a circle and finish one room at a time.
-
Prevent streaks on glass and mirrors and save time and energy too! Do you wipe
windows in a circular motion? Instead, use a horizontal overlapping stroke. Not
only will you cover all the glass, including the corners and sides that are often
missed by a circular motion, but it will take 50% less time to clean using this
method.
-
Cleaning saves money! Dirty stuff wears out faster than clean stuff! Take some
time and clean those areas of the home or office that get missed with weekly
cleaning. Vacuum behind appliances and keep coils clean. Vacuum out your clothes
dryer and keep the lint trap clean. Change air filters regularly. Clean the stove
and oven regularly and don't forget under the cooktop! Simply put, keeping things
clean extends the life of everything from upholstery to appliances and this saves
you money!
Speed Cleaning
-
Glass cleaner with a disinfectant cleans kitchen counters and bathrooms in just
minutes! Look for a glass cleaner with built-in disinfectant designed to kill germs
and bacteria quickly for optimal cleaning.
-
Keep a container of disposable wipes next to each sink for quick and easy cleanup!
-
Try lemon oil on shower doors! Apply 2-3 teaspoons of lemon oil with a soft
cloth to your shower doors twice a month. Apply in overlapping horizontal rather
than a circular motion. Shampoo and soap scum will simply bead up and roll down the
drain!
-
Allow the cleaning products to do most of the job, and do two things at once!
Spray tile cleaner on your shower or tub and while it is working, clean the mirrors
and fixtures with glass cleaner. Or, squeeze toilet bowl cleaner under the rim and
around the bowl of a toilet and while it works, clean the bathtub. There are many
places in the home or office that will benefit from this strategy.
-
Clean a microwave fast! Zap a cup of hot water until it boils in the microwave
and the steam will work on crusted or spilled food stuck to the inside. Simply wipe
the microwave clean with a soft cloth!
-
Stainless steel sink looking a little dull and cloudy? Restore its shine with a
little mineral oil!
-
Purchase a small whisk broom and keep it handy when cleaning. Use it around
carpet edges and baseboards and to remove crumbs under seat cushions, dust pleated
lampshades, clear cobwebs and sweep air vents and doorjambs and other hard to reach
places.
-
When time is short, if budget allows, use treated disposable cleaning cloths for
dusting, disinfecting and cleaning glass, mirrors, computer screens, etc.
-
To spiff up dull copper in a hurry, try rubbing it with a bit of ketchup.
-
In between regular cleanings, vacuum high traffic areas only to keep rooms
looking fresh and tidy.
